PWSC has supported ADB in a number of contexts. In 2017–2018, under TA9003 on integrated resource planning and strategic environmental assessment in the Greater Mekong Sub-region, Program CAPRICORN was used to demonstrate explicit treatment of externalities when optimising generation and transmission expansion plans. Earlier ADB-funded work in the 1990s included basin hydropower expansion studies for the Mekong region and integrated operation studies for WAPDA and KESC in Pakistan, covering least-cost generation co-ordination and tariff issues. ADB has repeatedly engaged PWSC when advanced optimisation and simulation tools are required for power sector planning.
