Model variables that represent choices to be made by the optimisation, such as generation levels or investment decisions.
In mathematical programming models decision variables are the unknowns the solver adjusts to optimise the objective function. They may represent hourly generation dispatch, reservoir releases, transmission flows, new plant capacities or timing of investments. Their definition determines what questions the optimisation can answer.
