Two broad approaches to representing uncertainty: deterministic models use single input traces, while stochastic models treat inputs as random variables.
Deterministic models typically use historic or design inflow sequences and demand series as fixed inputs. Stochastic models represent these drivers using probability distributions or multiple random sequences. PWSC studies may use deterministic models for transparency and communication, and stochastic approaches where a more explicit treatment of risk is required.
