A hydropower basin development study assesses alternative combinations and phasing of dams, reservoirs and hydropower plants within a river basin. It uses hydrological simulation and optimisation models to compare schemes in terms of energy production, flood control, water supply, environmental impacts and costs, and recommends a staged development programme.
