Water company in North West England for which PWSC has developed and extended major water resource system models over several decades.
PWSC has worked extensively with North West Water and its successor United Utilities. From the mid-1980s onward MOSPA and MOSES models were developed for the Northern and Southern Command Zones, Lancaster supply system and the Lake District and Lancashire conjunctive use schemes. Studies covered derivation of optimised medium-term policies, drought management measures, marginal cost curves, deployment yields and real-time operation of borehole networks. In the 1990s PWSC implemented MOSPA on mainframe, workstation and PC platforms and linked the models to corporate databases. Joint projects with the National Rivers Authority and later the Environment Agency investigated redeployment of Lake Vyrnwy and River Dee regulation. In the 2000s MOSPA models were further enhanced and actualised for the integrated water resource systems of the North West and the River Dee, supporting EU Habitats Directive and resource planning work.
